Beth Bids Farewell

bethIt is with mixed emotions that I officially announce my retirement from the Literacy Council of Central Alabama. It has been an honor and a true pleasure to have served as executive director of this agency for the past 6 1/2 years. I consider myself lucky to have been offered the opportunity to follow my passion for literacy through a job I love. I have been blessed with an incredible staff of brilliant professionals and a dedicated board of directors that supported us every step of the way. Because of these gifts, we have built something amazing at the Literacy Council and have changed the way this community approaches literacy, the foundation on which all like skills are built. I am sad to be leaving, but excited about the possibilities that await me and my family in the future.

I am thrilled to announce that Katrina Watson will be taking over as executive director on March 27. Katrina comes to the Literacy Council from Oasis Counseling, where she has served as development director. She is a well-known and well-respected professional and brings with her a wealth of knowledge in non-profit management and fundraising. I think her most valuable gifts, though, are her youthful enthusiasm, energy, and passion for helping others. I know she will take the Literacy Council to new heights in the coming years, and I am excited to watch this growth.

Thank you to our faithful supporters, learners, volunteers and donors, for allowing me to serve this agency. My heart will forever remain with the Literacy Council and its vision and mission.

Beth Wilder, President and Executive Director, 2010-2017
