THE TOP THREE REASONS YOU SHOULD GET YOUR GED!

Obtaining a GED certificate (or equivalent credential) can open doors to opportunities. Having a high school diploma or an equivalency credential can help you:

1. Get a job and earn more money.
Most employers look for applicants who have completed high school or their high school equivalency. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, people with at least a high school-level education, are not only less likely to be unemployed, but they earn nearly $200 more per week, on average, than those without a high school-level of education.
2. Attend college or technical school.
Colleges and universities, two-year colleges, and technical schools all require a high school diploma or equivalent. Higher education can raise your potential earnings exponentially. People with professional degrees earned six times as much as people who did not earn a high school degree.
3. Stay on the straight and narrow.

Crime and low literacy levels are closely related. According to the Justice Department, “The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure.” Seventy-five percent of state prison inmates did not complete high school or can be classified as low literate. Ninety-five percent of those incarcerated will be reintegrated into our communities. Research shows that educating inmates makes them 43 percent less likely to return to prison.
